Retail

Retail is the process of selling consumer goods or servicess to customers through multiple channels of distribution to earn a profit. Retailers satisfy demand identified through a supply chain. The term "retailer" is typically applied where a service provider fills the small orders of many individuals, who are end-users, rather than large orders of a small number of wholesalecorporate or government clientele. Shopping generally refers to the act of buying products. Sometimes this is done to obtain final goods, including necessities such as food and clothing; sometimes it takes place as a recreational activity. Recreational shopping often involves window shopping and browsing: it does not always result in a purchase.

Retail markets and shops have a very ancient history, dating back to antiquity. Some of the earliest retailers were itinerant peddlers. Over the centuries, retail shops were transformed from little more than "rude booths" to the sophisticated shopping malls of the modern era.

The most common examples of retailing are traditional brick-and-mortar stores. These include giants such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and Target. But retailing includes even the smallest kiosks at your local mall. Retailers don't just sell goods, they also sell services.

Working in the retail industry involves interacting with people to provide excellent customer service and information about products and services as well as handling and resolving complaints. ... It helps to have sales and marketing skills to show, promote and sell the products or services.

Retail sales workers assist customers with purchases by identifying their needs, showing or demonstrating merchandise, receiving payment, recording sales, and wrapping their purchases or arranging for their delivery. They are sometimes called sales clerksretail clerks, or salespeople.

Retail Services means the use of a building or part of a building by persons who are engaged in the sale of goods to customers, and includes uses such as hardware, mail order, clothing, appliances, electronics, books, gifts and second hand goods, and may include incidental repairs.
